This form of printmaking was developed by a group of 6 artists in Provincetown, USA in 1915. they wanted to emulate the style of the Japanese woodblock prints, without the need for separate woodblocks. Using pine, they cut grooves into the wood to separate each colour, which was painted on and printed on to fine japans papers.
